Day 5: Archaeology
Blocktober continues! Today: How To Drown In References (actually, that’s going to be tomorrow), and picture-wise "first light" (an astronomer’s term) of the scenery.
Post images: I found some sketches I had made a couple of years ago about the Mynster, the concent and the town layout.
As much as I just want to use the previously mentioned maps for this little playful project, I can’t really evaluate where I might have a different interpretation of the text than their authors, and they lack some information I want for a 3D reconstruction.
So, I’ve been delving into the book.
I’m currently on page 225,
having made 399 annotaitons,
employing 44 tags.
Puh. I noticed that sometimes relevant info might even come much later in the story when

the characters have long left the setting of Saunt Edhar– as on page 380, when the existence of a "New Laundry" at Edhar is mentioned. It will be a while; noticing all the details I want and marking passages is a lot slower than just reading for fun. ;)
So far, I have only transferred a few infos to a 3D model. I’m using Blender, even if I wanted to whitebox in Unreal Engine. But it’s easier for my skills to lay out the big relationships in Blender. This is what the scene currently looks like:
And just FYI, I’m using a scanned PDF in Zotero to manage my annotations, and Obsidian to keep track of relationships, and synthesize still outstanding answers to questions like:
- How does the Mynster look?
- How high is the Mynster above the Tenners’ meadow?
- How big is the concent = how many avout live in the concent?
- What buildings are there in each Math?
- What kind, how big and where are the labyrinths between the three Maths on the plane?
- How big is each Mynster’s nave?
- How big is the town around the concent?
Maybe I should dump all my research into a fan wiki, so that it’s preserved in case someone else is interested in anything? I’ve got some references, after all …
